Call and Response
FHN + Creating Communities
February 2017
FHN Studio, Annapolis, MD
This project was a collaboration with partner outreach organization, Creating Communities. It was inspired by “call-and-response,” an oral component in many forms of traditional music, also emphasized in local contemporary Go-Go music shows as “Shout-outs” between musicians and audience members and crews. This project consisted of two paintings whereby one or two artists would make a mark or series of marks, allowing the next person to respond with additional mark making; a series of exquisite cadavers: a drawing collaboration whereby images are collectively assembled, with each person only being allowed to see the end of what the previous person contributed; piano playing and a poetry reading.
