Chambers Park, Annapolis, MD

On July 4-5, 2020, Future History Now, in partnership with the Banneker-Douglass Museum and the Maryland Commission on African American History and Culture, created a 7000-square-foot ground mural in collaboration with community residents, volunteers, and partner outreach programs: B.L.A.C.K. Excel, Jóvenes Artistas, and Hood2Good Movement. This action was in response to ongoing human injustice, intended to amplify the conversation about systemic racism and police brutality towards unarmed African Americans, and as a reminder that African American women are also victims of such violence. We hope to have provided an opportunity for future leaders and community residents to experience this pivotal moment in history in an active and positive way.

This effort was funded with donations from over 100 individuals, The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, Jahru LLC, and Lowe’s Home Improvement. In-kind support was provided by Chambers Park, The Greater Parole Community Association, The City of Annapolis, Annapolis Recreation & Parks, The Annapolis Arts District, Pepsi, and many others.

This mural project was conceptualized, designed, organized, and directed by Jeff Huntington aka Jahru.
